Banana blossoms (aka banana flower heart) are tear-shaped maroon or purplish floers hanging at the end of banana clusters. They make a perfect substitue for fish.
Banana Blossom Vegan Fish and Chips
To prepare your banana blossom
2 tins Banana Blossom in brine Natures Charm 510G (BANBL)
2 cups x water
Lemon juice (LEMJL)
2 tsp x - dill leaf tip (DILTIP)
1tsp x kelp powder or seaweed powder (SEAWNR)
50g plain flour (FLOSC)
Batter
1 cup x flour (FLOSC)
1tsp x baking powder (BAKEP)
1tsp x celery salt
1tsp x paprika (PAPRG)
1tsp x pepper
1tsp x garlic powder (GARPP)
1cup x beer
Vegetable Oil for Deep Frying (CANOIL1)
Method
Drain and discard liquid from banana blossom tin, carefully take out the pieces an place them into a large bowl. Add lemon juice, dill leaf tips, seaweed flakes and water to ensure the banana blossom is fully immersed. Leave it in the freezer for 1 hour.
Batter
Mix your dry ingredients, whisk in 1 cup of beer until you have a thick paste. Dip banana blossom in the plain flower, then cover each piece in the batter completely. Gently lowering them in the hot oil, cook until golden brown and crispy.
